Construction equipment operators are responsible for clearing and grading land to build roads, buildings, bridges, airport runways, power plants, dams, levees, and other structures.
Interest/Qualifications
This work is outdoor and varies with the weather. Apprentices might need to commute long distances or relocate temporarily to find work. They must be flexible and able to adapt to different environments, sites, and requirements. Skills in mechanics, experience with mobile equipment (like farm tractors), good physical health, balance, and hand-eye-foot coordination are essential. A commercial driver’s license is often required to transport equipment between sites.
